We spend half of our working lives trying to think of ways to persuade people to visit South Africa. And now, due simply to current global economic circumstances, the most compelling set of arguments for a holiday to South Africa has just fallen in our laps.
Although I am not entirely sure how the US Dollar has come to be seen as a ‘safe haven’ currency (didn’t they start all this economic meltdown?), that is what is happening. Any holidays costed in US Dollars – i.e. USA, Caribbean, much of Latin America & many more – are now up to 50% more expensive than this time last year for exactly the same holiday. Holidays in The Euro Zone haven’t fared much better, with increases of up to 30%.
South Africa however hasn’t had these recent wild movements in its currency, and consequently it currently represents one of the best value for money holiday destinations around. British Airways think so too, naming Cape Town & Johannesburg as two of their potential top ten holiday destinations in 2009.

It’s a special time in South Africa, with rapid development in preparation for a feast of great sporting events over the next couple of years. 2009 and 2010 are exciting times for South Africa, so with cheaper flights than many other popular holiday destinations it’s the perfect time to plan a visit.
South Africa is hosting three major sporting events; June / July 2009 see the British & Irish Lions Rugby team tour; England’s cricket team visit from November 2009 – January 2010 to take on the in-form Proteas; and starting on 11th June 2010 the biggest event of them all rolls into town in the shape of the FIFA World Cup; South Africa 2010.
But nothing else has changed. The suns still shines, the food & wine are still good, the people still friendly and the sights still spectacular. So what’s stopping you from booking a holiday in South Africa? With the current turmoil in the financial markets, holidays in Southern Africa are looking better and better value. Your dream holiday in South Africa could be cheaper than you might imagine.

I’m surprised to read that you quote the dollar as a safe haven currency. I thought it was all-but-that?! I would say the Euro is coming strong on that, no?
