Africa Collection makes a noise about the World Cup
Posted by: africacollection in South Africa World Cup on June 18th, 2010
The team at Africa Collection is making a noise about the FIFA World Cup and holidays in South Africa in the run up to celebrating their 10 year anniversary. The rural countryside in West Sussex resounded with the blaring of South African flag-themed vuvuzelas as the team got well and truly into the spirit of the football fever gripping South Africa, and the World, at the moment.
Africa Collection’s 10 year birthday on 01st July is yet another cause for celebration. Just last month, Africa Collection was awarded ‘Best African Specialist’ for the third year running by South African Airways UK at its annual Indaba Awards in Durban, South Africa. A great achievement indeed in what was an exceptionally challenging year.

The thirty-two year old Manchester United centre back became England captain this year, having made 78 appearances for his country in previous tournaments, qualifiers and friendlies. He has withdrawn from the tournament after the injury to a ligament in his knee, suffered just 24 hours after arriving in South Africa.

A real cliché, but in this case true. If you are an England football (or soccer) fan there is a very good chance that the England team will confirm their participation in the Fifa 2010 World Cup in South Africa after their Group 6 qualifying game against Croatia at Wembley Stadium on 09th September 2009. Even a draw will virtually guarantee England qualification. The draw for the group stages of the finals will only be made on 04th December 2009, and this is the first time you will find out where your team will be playing their 3 group games. Demand for flights (& therefore the price), is only going to get higher from now on in. So don’t wait until then. 8 of the 9 host cities are accessed through Johannesburg. Cape Town is only hosting 8 of the 64 matches, so Johannesburg is the hub, flight-wise. Read the rest of this entry »
South Africa 2010 – World Cup tickets go on sale
Posted by: africacollection in South Africa World Cup on March 17th, 2009
In Zurich in May 2004 FIFA announced that for the very first time the World Cup would be held in Africa & that South Africa were to host the event. Queue wild celebrations across the nation. Five years down the line the first ticket sales phase of the FIFA World Cup in South Africa in 2010 starts on 20th February 2009. The tournament kicks off on 11th June 2010 in Johannesburg.
The first of a total of five sales phases will run from 20th February to 31st March 2009, with tickets being allocated by a random selection draw for over-subscribed matches and ticket categories. All orders will be entered into a random selection draw on 15th April 2009 at the same time, regardless of whether they were submitted on the first or the last day of the first sales phase. Should demand exceed availability for a certain category or match then available tickets will be awarded by ballot (i.e. through an electronic random selection draw).
It’s set to be an exciting tournament in South Africa, it will be the first time the tournament has been hosted by a nation in the Confederation of African Football. Egypt, Morocco and Libya/Tunisia all placed bids for the 2010 Word Cup but South Africa emerged successful after just one round of voting.
Tickets are bound to go like hot cakes. To order you can log on to FIFA.com, the official website of the 2010 FIFA World Cup South Africa where fans can sign up for the FIFA.com Club for free. As well as individual tickets for the 64 matches, team-specific ticket series are also available for the country of your choice. These are valid for anything from three to seven games.
Tickets are available in three categories for international visitors – the least expensive ticket in category 3 costs $80 USD.
There will be four further sales periods for the 2010 FIFA World Cup South Africa, with the second running from 04th May to 16th November 2009. During this period, tickets will be attributed based on the order in which the application is received and, of course, subject to availability.
All information on ticket sales is available on FIFA.com.
Of course once you have the match tickets you will need travel arrangements – go to www.africacollection.com, an award-winning specialist tour operator specialising in trips to South Africa, for full details of the flights and holidays that can be arranged for you.
